Shoulder joint replacement, also known as shoulder arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure where a damaged or diseased shoulder joint is replaced with an artificial joint, typically made of metal and plastic components. This procedure is often considered when conservative treatments, such as medications and physical therapy, fail to provide relief from shoulder pain and dysfunction.

Symptoms:

1. Severe Shoulder Pain: Persistent and severe shoulder pain, especially at rest or during activities, can be a significant symptom.

2. Limited Range of Motion:Difficulty moving the shoulder joint and performing everyday tasks due to restricted range of motion.

3. Stiffness: Gradual or sudden stiffness in the shoulder joint, making it challenging to move the arm freely.

Causes:

1. Osteoarthritis: A degenerative joint disease where the protective cartilage on the ends of bones wears down over time.

2. Rheumatoid Arthritis: An autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation in the joints, including the shoulder.

3. Post-Traumatic Arthritis: Joint damage resulting from a severe shoulder injury or fracture.

4. Avascular Necrosis: Poor blood supply to the bone, leading to bone death and joint deterioration.

5. Rotator Cuff Tear: Severe and irreparable tears in the rotator cuff muscles can lead to joint damage.
